Bert the Poultrynaut

Here's Bert the poultrynaut from "Crash Nebula". I included some development images of him when he was a chicken named "Chuck." Apperently at the time "Crash" was being developed, Jimmy Neutron had some chickens in space so we ended up taking the red thing on his head, putting it on his beak, and making him a turkey. These images are all hand inked with a Pilot Razor Point felt tip pen and colored in Photoshop.

Hey Ben,

Cool design and nice inking, would love to see him in action. Is it a personal project of yours?

Instant fan,

Hans

Hey Hans,

Thanks for the compliments. You can see him in action as a Fairly Oddparents episode called Crash Nebula. It airs on Nickelodeon from time to time. The show was originally supposed to be a pilot for a series but when some punk-ass kids in Maryland didn't like it Nickelodeon decided to just show it as an episode of F.O.P. As far as linking, please "link-away!" That's very cool of you!

Ben,

First time actually commenting on your work!
Your blog is truly refreshing to come to every week.
You surprise me, and I absolutely love the Poultrynaut.
It makes me wonder how in the heck you get these amazing but insane ideas!

Thanks guys!

cosmicpencil, I can't take credit for the idea for Bert. The writers, Butch Hartman, and Steve Marmel had the "paultrynaut" idea in the original script for "Crash Nebula". I just came up with the design for him, based on their description in the script.

Wow. These are awesome! You are as proficient with props as you are with characters. A rare skillset indeed!

What amazes me the most is the incredible wide range of styles you dominate. And all of them so naturally. Is this hand-inked?
